Creating a Professional Website

When creating a website with a professional purpose in mind, one should present themselves with a tone of formality, yet also take care not to sound conceited or too distanced from a conversational speaking manner (third person is recommended). Once accomplished, visiting customers, business partners, and the like will be more apt to take the website and what it represents seriously and with great interest. Layouts should be formulaic, to the point where everything has a mold it fits into, however, it would be wise to make this noticeable yet not incredibly obvious--and a proper 'flow' is a must! Colour schemes should be entirely fitting to the page of which it belongs, and interestingly, variations in colour scheme are more tolerable in professional websites than in its casual and school-related counterparts (so long as said variations are properly made to fit where they are placed).

Maintaining a Professional Website

With a professional website, keeping the entire site up-to-date is paramount. The last thing one needs is a visitor finding old information that is no longer necessary, or worse, being unable to find new information. Like the casual and school-related websites, any site-wide updates to things like the layout should be announced before hand, but not nearly as long ahead of time--more like a week, at most (so, working on the update before announcing it is important). And, of course, such changes should be made at an hour of which traffic is the lowest. However, unlike the other website types, with a professional one, absolute insurance that there is no downtime is a wise idea, so nothing is missed by either the owners or the visitors (this can be covered by purchasing a server, or perhaps even more than one, depending on the size and traffic of the website). Topics covered on the website should only relate to the business at hand, as off topic additions are distracting from what one might be trying to present.
